One of the fun perks of being a home inspector is that I have the opportunity to see a lot of history. One thing that I’ve noticed is you have a pretty good idea of what you may see in a home based on location. Many towns in the Fox Valley, were initially developed near the river for practical reasons. As you travel further from the Fox River, (especially toward the west) you’ll notice the homes, for the most part are younger and younger. Buildings, systems, technology and styles are constantly changing. For example, this 4 pronged outlet seen in a Batavia, IL home may seem foreign. This is an older, 4 pin phone jack. This Style hasn’t been used for many years, but adapters are available for antique phones. A few years from now, people will likely be scratching their heads about our current jacks, outlets and receptacles.
