As you’re house hunting in the Chicago suburbs, you may encounter a few things that didn’t exist in your last home. As a home inspector, I get a chance to see a little bit of everything. At a recent inspection in Batavia, IL I got a picture of one commonly found item. This little guy has an important job. It helps manage the condensate (water) produced by the HVAC equipment you see behind it. When there isn’t a convenient and appropriate location to run the condensate drain line (white pipe), an alternative is to add a pump like this to move the unwanted water where it belongs. Effectively dealing with water produced by your air conditioner or furnace is critical to any proper HVAC installation.
